Sacrifice – The Road to Obscurity is a debut work of Pradeep Shrivastava, the first part of his trilogy depicting the angst, aspirations, and struggles of a middle-class family of Jabalpur headed by Narayan Keer and how one day a single decision changed everything in their life.

Narayan Keer is a humble lower middle-class man, whose life revolves around his family. He and his wife work hard so that their children can have a better life than they did. However, their dreams come crashing down when an influential builder decides to construct a sports complex upon their colony and asks the residents to vacate the land.

The Keers, along with their neighbours, face the prospect of losing their home. The fear brings to the fore superstition, greed, anger and mistrust among the residents of the colony. In the grip of these emotions, they take decisions that will have far-reaching consequences.

Pradeep Shrivastava tells the reason he chooses to pen down this story was to portray something about life, bringing in the real picture of India which most of us are unaware about. The theme of the novel revolves around the practice where all Indian Families take centuries to reach their pinnacle which gets destroyed in a day and becomes part of distant memory. Through the medium of this novel, Sacrifice – The Road to Obscurity he has tried to make an effort to showcase the evils of injustice and superstitions prevalent in our society, even in the twenty-first century.

Pradeep Shrivastava faced constant rejections for getting his story published. But this didn’t let him loose hope and feel disheartened. Rather his core determination and passion for making this novel available among the audiences motivated him to go in for self-publishing. All he wishes from his readers to be patient while reading the novel and apply the message that it offers to deal real life situations. He adds that this is just the first part that evokes interest among the readers to know more, as what followed next would be further revealed in the other two parts of the trilogy.
